Adult Reviews

It’s rare to find a book that appeals to all ages, regardless of whether you’re 9 or 99. ‘Fire in Time’ does exactly that - it’s a rare gem! Gentle yet exciting, empathetic, thought-provoking, fantastical, romantic, pure, wholesome, educational, historical and uplifting. How, do you ask, can one book be all of those things? Read it and you’ll find out! Let’s hope that Golden has a sequel up her sleeve.

A fantastic read, well done!! The characters have developed nicely, and the interactions between them are well written. I enjoyed the occasional changes of pace - the raids etc, Jenni cutting herself. Her relationship with Taran was handled brilliantly, and the ending sits well, not too mushy! I thought the information re plants, weaving, the making of charcoal was interesting and not overplayed.

This is the fourth I have read in this series and, as with the others, I have thoroughly enjoyed it. The descriptions of the Iron Age ceremonies held throughout the year, are amazing. I have learnt so much about these people and how they live, especially how much nature was revered in those times. It should be essential reading for young people, in how to connect with nature again in these technological times. The research that has gone into this book, from archaeology to history, from nature's remedies to Iron Age crafts, is remarkable. I shall miss Jenni and her time-travelling friends and can't wait to see what the author will write next.

About the author:

A happy childhood full of love and books led Pam Golden to study teaching. Once she had finished her education, she found her wings and flew. After many adventures around the world, she finally met her husband and they settled down in Yorkshire, where their son was born. Her philosophy is simple; that love, in the broadest meaning of the word, is the answer. She believes that everything in life happens for a reason. “Someone once asked me to think of the worst thing that happened to me in my life. I instantly thought of something and then paused. Actually, I responded, it was the very best thing that happened to me. It triggered a whole series of events that have led me to the point where I am today.” Pam has always had a vivid imagination and started writing her first children’s book when she was nine years old. She never finished it but has finally realised her dream in the completion of this first novel many years later.
