More Wisdom from Black Elk

The first peace, which is the most important, is that which comes within the souls of people when they realize their relationship,
their oneness, with the universe and all its powers, and when they realize that at the center of the universe dwells Wakan-Taka (the Great Spirit), and that this center is really everywhere, it is within each of us.

This is the real peace, and the others are but reflections of this. The second peace is that which is made between two individuals,
and the third is that which is made between two nations. But above all you should understand that there can never be peace between nations until there is known that true peace, which, as I have often said, is within the souls of men.

Reading these words again, I can’t help but marvel at how universal and how relevant they are at this very minute and this very time. One of the consequences of the Covid pandemic has been to give people time to stop and look at themselves.

Some have chosen to embrace it, deal with it and cope with whatever it threw up. Some have found it extremely hard and suffered with mental health issues, some have relished the time to delve deeper into their journey of self discovery…the list is endless. We all have such different backgrounds and so many varied factors influencing us, that no-one can judge anyone else for how they have responded. It is as it is.

However, the wisdom in this message is clear. Remember our connection to the source of all things, to the Universal love.

At the beginning of the ‘lockdown’ people seemed to really pull together, the sense of community, connection and compassion was very apparent in many places and seems to have been an experience that many shared.

Now that the distractions are coming back in, it seems it is easy for these values to slip away again and for people to forget.

We are at a pivotal moment in our evolutionary history. We have the chance to see things as they really are, to do something and to change the way the world is run and operated. However, as Black Elk said all those years ago, it has to start with us. If we want to create a new and better world we need to look deeply into our own hearts and connect with that infinite love. Then make our choices and operate in our own lives from that understanding and compassion. Everything else will then naturally fall into place.

Something very special happened this week. Our relatives in South Dakota mentioned seeing a flash and hearing a loud boom as an asteroid travelled relatively close to the earth. It was heard and seen all over the reservation. Some will dismiss it as a mere phenomena but I would like to think it is a sign of good things to come, reminding us that there is more out there and that we are on a journey through time and space together. We have a chance to make the best of it – let’s all make the right choices to connect to our inner knowing.
